About Us
In April of 2003, the State of California released "The California Child Welfare Outcomes & Accountability System" document, which stated:
"The true measure of success will be when California's communities see and treat foster children as if they were their own. The day that we prevail in our mission will be the day that we monitor the health, education, well-being, and overall success of foster children the same way that we do for our own children."
Lori Cohee, a Foster Care Alumni, founded Foster A Dream in July of 2002, approximately one year prior to this initiative. Our mission is to provide programs and resources that build the hopes, dreams and futures of Bay Area foster children; and be a guiding source for successful transition into the adult world.
We plant seeds of promise in children who are underrepresented. Children who are thrust as innocents, into a system which in its present condition simply cannot develop them, but rather merely sustains them until they are released as young adults into a world for which they are not prepared.
Foster A Dream is an efficient and cost effective way for a supporter to contribute to a charity with results that directly serve the child, but also assist the community. That is, any assistance we provide in rendering a child as a contributing member of society, we all reap the benefits. We don't simply "throw money" at the problem; we invest in helping foster children become productive members of our world - those who contribute to society, not take from it. We help the foster youth in our program identify their dreams and see that they go from fantasy to reality.
In April of 2004, Solano County CPS and the Board of Supervisors presented Foster A Dream with a resolution honoring us for our accomplishments and dedicated service to the foster children in our community.
