“Dare to Dream” Academic Scholarships

70% of foster youth want to attend college, sadly only 3% actually make it. Even worse, of those who make it to college, less than 1% actually graduate with a degree! Foster A Dream is very committed to supporting foster youth who are pursing their higher education dreams. We launched our Dare to Dream Scholarship Program in 2006 and thanks to our sponsors, we have awarded over $115,000 in academic scholarships to over 45 youth.

How it works:

  • Interested supporters can make a charitable donation of $500 to $10,000.
  • 100% of the donation goes toward the selected scholarship recipient.
  • Scholarships are awarded to the youth at our annual agency event in May. 2012 Dream Maker’s Breakfast event will be on May 3rd at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Concord at 8am to 9am.
  • Foster A Dream does NOT give the scholarship funds directly to the scholars. Instead, we carefully manage the scholarship and disburse the funds directly to the college.
  • We are also working on “Supplemental Full-Ride” scholarships with interested donors. In summary, this involves Foster A Dream providing substantial time investment helping to build a solid financial aid base and the donor provides the “unmet needs” of a student’s financial aid requirements.
